Reading 104
Stephanie Scott
Free Choice Response Week 5
The assignment asks for us to read from page 65 to 151, and now I would inform you of my likes and dislikes. In this book Liar Micah the main character is a unique individual. The book offsets with her character good in how the story is constantly jumping from one thing to another. Here are some likes about the book: the text is eye friendly, there are not a lot of difficult words, and it keeps the reader guessing. The reason I say the text is easy on the eyes is because I have experience with losing track in my readings when I have to read small print. It also doesn’t cover the book page with just words clustered up together. The reason I say there are not a lot of hard words is because the book does a great job of explaining and getting to the point without filling the book with such big terminology. I also like it because I’m not experienced in big vocabulary type words any way so now I can read this book without looking up words that I don’t know in the dictionary. When I say this book keeps the reader guessing is when the text jumps around with her story. Well now that I think about it more it’s sort of frustrating if you do not comprehend in this manner. Though I believe now that it’s a good learning tool if you did know how to previously. So the expression of whatever bloats your boat is precise for this method. In concluding it’s been awesome finding a book that I can really get in too even though I don’t like to read.

This week I’m going to blog about an open discussion on a cultural object. I chose this because I feel that it’s controversial and also on a hot topic that needs publicity. Ok now I’m a hip hop fan or to some it’s called rap. I listen to several rappers old or current. Gucci Mane a rapper from East Atlanta who have been rapping and releasing his work for ten years is one of my favorites. His style is catching and his swagger on the microphone hypes me up. Now the controversial part is his lyrics, not for everyone. The rap industry is in an era where gangster rap is popular. I might sound biased about this but I don’t listen to the lyrics personally. Though taking in consideration that everyone is not me, and listen to what is actually being saying on the record. Then there is the concerns about the explicitly lyrics and how he can affect society with such vulgar. I agree to a certain extent about those critics who rule the gangster rap is bad. Yes it is bad to hear, yes it can stereotype blacks with conducting that lifestyle, but it’s also the truth of what struggles some people have to sacrifice just to live. Selling dope in the neighborhood was a survival tool. Yes it affected the outcome of the community with the addictions and a drastic epidemic that still exists. Now up and coming people talk about what used to go on or still goes on low key in the neighborhood. Gucci Mane is a product now making money living his life successful and better from this evolution. I guess if one way can’t produce you just find another way.

Entry 1
My post this week I’m going to discuss this issue that has been bothering me since the beginning action. My issue is with the whole Michael Vick situation and how it affected me which I am a huge fan of. First for those who don’t know who Michael Vick is he’s a NFL quarterback who had been sent to prison for bankrolling a dog fighting ring. My position on this situation is not backing him for what he did but disagreeing with the severe punishment he received from the law. The sentence was 23 months in prison and he lost his starting quarterback job in the NFL also several endorsements leading up to millions he lost. My expression to all of that is wow. I’m not in support for what he did; he even admitted it that it was a mistake. Still all and all they (the federal law) brought down heavy heat on him. The argument I will make to those who don’t see my point is the differences in what we call animal cruelty. The law states that it is bad to fight pit bulls which are dogs, but then turn around and shoot deer and birds and then call that a sport. If I’m not mistaken I believe that is animal cruelty as well. Honestly just think about that for a second. What’s the difference between letting dogs fight which that’s the nature of the certain dog. Pit bulls are natural fighters, but then take a shot gun prey on innocent animals that can’t defend themselves and shoot them dead. Now I’m no rocket scientist but that seems mighty odd to me.
